overview

In the drive unit of a robot arm, there was a need to achieve both space saving and stable power transmission, but conventional belt pulley systems had the problem of easily becoming large in size.

Therefore, we adopted an ultra-small chain with a pitch of 1.905 mm and revised the drive system.

By eliminating the use of belts and pulleys, the drive mechanism of the arm section has been significantly made more compact, contributing to the overall miniaturization of the device.

Furthermore, the reliable power transmission system using a chain mechanism ensures stable arm movement even in limited spaces.

Problem

In the arm section of robots used as automated devices, the drive mechanism must be positioned within a limited range of motion, making miniaturization and weight reduction of the device a crucial challenge.

Traditionally, a belt pulley system was used, but the pulley diameter and the need for a certain amount of space for belt routing limited the ability to further compact the arm section.

Furthermore, in order to improve the maneuverability and freedom of movement of the arm tip, there was a need for a drive system that could transmit power more reliably and in a more space-saving manner.

Adopted products

Epsilon Chain Stainless Steel Specification

Chain pitch of 1.905mm! For power transmission in extremely small spaces. The world's smallest * roller chain.

When winding power transmission in a small space, it can be designed more compactly than toothed belts or wire ropes.

The chain's unique meshing mechanism ensures reliable power transmission.

Benefits of adopting the product

By adopting Tsubaki's ultra-small roller chain, Epsilon Chain, we have achieved space savings in the drive unit compared to conventional belt pulley systems.

By eliminating the need for pulley diameters and belt routing, the entire arm section can be designed more compactly, contributing to the miniaturization and weight reduction of the device.

Furthermore, the reliable power transmission provided by the chain system improves the stability of the arm's movement, enabling stable operation even within a narrow range of motion.
