Application Examples Cam Clutch - 17. Bucket elevators, inclined conveyors

application

Backstop

Also known as backstopping.
The cam clutch continues to run idle while the machine is running, and only engages when the machine reverses direction, which is a rare occurrence.

Purpose of use and operation explanation

When transporting in a fixed direction using a bucket elevator or inclined conveyor, the drive unit may be damaged by a lightning strike or other trouble.
If the transported goods fall in the opposite direction when the machine stops, post-processing is required to restore the machine.
In the worst case scenario, it could lead to a personal injury accident.
The BS Cam Clutch is mounted on the main shaft.
When the main shaft is rotating in the forward direction (when the transported object is being transported from below to above), it is rotating idly.
In the event that a motor or other device stops due to some kind of trouble and reverse rotation occurs due to the weight of the transported object,
The BS Cam Clutch engages instantly to prevent reverse rotation.
Installing the BS Cam Clutch on the main shaft directly stops the reversing shaft, making it the most reliable installation location.

Tsubaki Cam Clutch

The most reliable mounting position is on the main shaft to prevent reverse rotation (A in the left image), but if the customer requests mounting on the intermediate shaft (B in the left image) or high-speed shaft (C in the left image) of the reducer, they can select the MG-R series, which is suitable for medium-speed idling, or the BR series, which is suitable for high-speed idling.
In the installation positions B (reduction gear intermediate shaft) and C (reduction gear high-speed shaft) in the left diagram, if the bucket elevator or inclined conveyor tries to reverse, there will be chains, couplings, gears, etc. between the main shaft and the clutch installation shaft, so if there is an abnormality in these devices, the reverse prevention of the cam clutch may not work.In other words, the reverse prevention position in position A in the left diagram is the safest installation position.

Advantages of using a Cam Clutch

  • - The cam clutch automatically engages to prevent reverse rotation.
  • -Compared to ratchets, it is compact and does not make noise or chip teeth.
  • - There is no need to adjust the braking force like with band brakes.
