Application Examples Cam Clutch - 8. Heavy-Duty Conveyor
application
Overrunning
When outer race of the Cam Clutch are engaged and torque is transmitted, the difference in rotation speed and direction of outer race causes
This is a method of use in which the wheel spins freely and repeatedly, similar to the freewheeling motion of a car.

Purpose of use and operation explanation
Heavy objects may be transported using equipment such as the one shown above.
In such devices, differences in chain length between the left and right sides may occur due to chain elongation, etc.
If the difference in chain length is large, a speed difference will occur between the left and right chains, causing the conveyed goods to stop at the end of the conveyor.
In this state, only the short side of the chain pulls the transported item, and the long side supports the weight.
The conveyor cannot be pulled by simply pulling the chain. On the long chain side, the chain will not touch the conveyed goods at the end of the conveyor.
When pushed, the chain bends to balance the length of the left and right chains, and this bending can cause problems such as tooth skipping.
Resonance is expected.
One solution to this problem is to install a cam clutch on the sprocket.
The conveyor chain is driven from the inner race to the outer outer race the cam clutch via cam engagement.
If the conveyor chain tries to bend due to the pushing force of the transported goods, the outer outer race of the cam clutch will bend more than inner race.
When the conveyor chain needs to rotate faster, it will inner race.
This allows the gears to be held in the engaged position on the side.
The left and right chains are kept balanced by a cam clutch, which helps extend the chain's lifespan.
With Tsubaki Cam Clutch...
There are various mounting and dimensional restrictions depending on the required torque from conveyors and drive devices, and the conditions of use.
You may be asked to:
There are various required characteristics for each type, such as large capacity, medium capacity, high speed, and low speed.
It is necessary to select the optimum cam and select and design a cam clutch that suits the conditions of use.
We have a selection of 23 types of 14T type standard cams, allowing you to determine the most effective and economical specifications.
Advantages of using a Cam Clutch
- - The cam clutch automatically engages due to the difference in rotation between inner race and outer race.
- - Just by installing a cam clutch, the speed difference of the chain can be absorbed.
