technical data Reducer Worm Reducer Handling

This page describes general matters regarding the handling of the EWJ, EWJM(R), EW, EWM(R), SWJ, SWJM(R), SW, SWM(R), and TD series.

For details, please refer to Instruction Manuals attached to the product.

7. Daily inspection and maintenance

7-1. Daily inspection

Be sure to perform daily inspections according to the table below. Neglecting daily inspections may cause problems.

Inspection items Inspection contents
noise Is the noise level higher than usual? Are there any abnormal sounds?
vibration Are there any abnormal vibrations or sudden changes?
surface temperature Is it abnormally high? Also, is it rising suddenly?
Oil level Is the oil level at the specified position when stopped?
Mounting bolt Are the installation bolts loose?
Chain belt Is there any looseness?
Lubricating oil contamination Is there any dirt caused by Wear debris?
Lubricating oil leak Is there any oil leakage from the joints of the reducer, oil seals, or lids?
Pressure Vent Is the air vent hole clogged?

If any abnormality is found during the daily inspection, please take the necessary measures according to "Troubleshooting." If the problem persists, please contact the store where you purchased the product.

7-2. Lubrication

Troi Drive and Worm Power Drive are shipped with a special high-quality lubricant sealed inside, so you can use them right away.

(1) Recommended lubricant

  • Lubricating oil is extremely important for the capacity, lifespan, and efficiency of the reducer. Be sure to use lubricating oil specified by our company. (Never mix with other brands.)
    EWJ, EWJM(R), EW, EWM(R) series
    SWJ, SWJM(R), SW, SWM(R) series
All models Daphne Alpha Oil TE260 (Idemitsu Kosan)
TD Series single reduction type Daphne Alpha Oil TE260 (Idemitsu Kosan)
Double reduction type Daphne Alpha Oil TE380 (Idemitsu Kosan)

Note: For the TERUS series, please refer to Instruction Manuals attached to the product.

  • ・For normal operation, we recommend using the above-mentioned lubricating oil.
When using single reduction with an input of 500 r/min or less, changing to Daphne Alpha Oil TE380 can be expected to improve the lifespan.
  • - If starting becomes difficult under operating conditions where the ambient temperature is low and the input speed is 1500 r/min or more, we recommend using Daphne Alpha Oil TE150.

Note: If you plan to use the product at ambient temperatures below -10°C or above 50°C, please contact us.

(2) Changing the lubricating oil

  • ・Lubricant is very important for the capacity, lifespan, and efficiency of the reducer. Be sure to use lubricant specified by our company.
  • ・The EWJ/EWJM(R) series and SWJ/SWJM(R) series do not require lubricating oil replacement. However, if the lubricating oil deteriorates significantly due to operating conditions, replacing it will ensure safer use.
  • ・Please follow the instructions below to change the lubricating oil for EW/EWM80-200, SW/SWM80-200, and TD125-315.
  • - Replace the filter for the first time after 1000 hours of operation or three months, whichever comes first.
  • - After the second time, replace the filter every 5,000 hours or every year, whichever comes first, depending on the operating conditions.
  • - Draining oil is easy if you drain it while it is still hot immediately after operation, but this is very dangerous as it can cause burns.Make sure that the surface temperature of the case is below 40-50°C before draining the oil.
  • When changing the lubricant, we recommend cleaning the inside of the case with the lubricant being replaced.

Note: Do not mix with other brands.

(3) Approximate amount of lubricating oil

  • ・The amount of oil varies slightly depending on the reduction ratio even for the same size, but use the oil amounts below as a guide and always check with the oil gauge.
(If the oil level is within the oil gauge when the machine is stationary, there is no problem with the oil level.)

Note: Do not mix with other brands.

Note: Do not confuse the TD series single reduction and Double reduction models.

Note) The EWJ/EWJM(R) series and SWJ/SWJM(R) series do not have an oil gauge.

7-3. Inspection and replacement of oil seals

  • - Oil seals also have a wear and lifespan, which can cause oil leaks. Operating under particularly harsh conditions (high temperatures, high rotation speeds, outdoors, and other harsh environments) can shorten their lifespan. Regularly inspect the oil seal, and if oil leaks are detected, replace the oil seal immediately. When replacing the oil seal, be sure to use an oil seal of the same model number and material. (Using an oil seal made of a different material can cause oil leaks.) Also, when replacing the oil seal, refer to the oil seal manufacturer's catalog. When replacing the oil seal, refer to Instruction Manuals for instructions on how to replace the oil seal and filter.
  • - In the early stages of operation, excess grease that was filled in during assembly may occasionally leak out from the lip of the oil seal, but this will not affect the functionality of the reducer.

7-4. Grease Replenishment (Semi-standard specifications)

  • ・If the input shaft is facing vertically upward or vertically downward due to the installation direction (the bearing is positioned higher than the oil level), it may be necessary to periodically apply grease to the upper bearing (sizes 80 and above, excluding sizes 70 and below).
  • - If regular greasing is required, the product is equipped with a greasing tap for attaching a grease nipple. (If necessary, "grease nipple" will be indicated on the outline drawing. Please refer to the outline drawing.)
  • - at the time of shipment, the product is plugged with a stopper (M6 fine-pitch hex bolt) to prevent oil leakage during transport. before installation or Operation, remove the stopper and replace it with the grease nipple included with the product. the product is greased at the time of shipment.
depending on the Transport conditions, the grease used to Lubricate the bearings may be submerged in oil. in This case, we recommend replenishing the grease through the grease nipple.
  • After starting operation, replenish the fuel every 1000 hours as follows:
    procedure Exchange instructions
1 Refilling should be done while the engine is stopped.
2 Use a grease gun or similar to apply the recommended grease to the grease nipple attached to the top housing.
Note: Avoid excessive greasing as it may cause heat generation and early deterioration of the lubricant.

    Grease nipple size: A-M6F

7-4-1. Recommended grease (standard specifications, ambient temperature: -10°C to 40°C)

Manufacturer Brand (Industrial all-purpose grease, JIS consistency No. 2)
Exxon Mobil Mobilux EP2 (our sealed grease)
Shell Lubricants Japan K.K. Shell Gadas S2 V220 J 2 (EP)
ENEOS Corporation Epinoc Grease AP2
Idemitsu Kosan Daphne Eponex No.2

Note: In the case of special specifications (special environments such as high temperatures or cold temperatures), the brand of grease may differ. Be sure to use the appropriate oil type for the specifications. Also, refer to the notes in the outline drawing.

7-4-2. Approximate greasing amount
