Brake life and braking distance calculation formula

1. Braking work load

E = (IM + I) × n2 182.5 × Tb (Tb ± T) E = (GDM2 + GD2) × n2 7160 × Tb (Tb ± T)

  • E : Braking work per time J{kgf・m}
  • I M {GD M2}: Moment of inertia of Hypoid Motor (Gear Motor) with brake kg・m 2
  • I {GD 2}: Equivalent load inertia moment of motor shaft kg・m 2 {GD 2 ・fm 2}
  • n: Motor shaft rotation speed r/min {kgf・m}
  • T b: Brake dynamic friction torque N・m{kgf・m} (Brake characteristics table)
  • Tℓ: Load torque equivalent to the motor shaft N・m{kgf・m}
  • ± symbol: For negative loads such as hanging loads, use (-T ).

2. Brake life

Z = ET E

3. Braking time

t = ta + tb

tb = (IM + I) × n 9.55 × (Tb ± T) E = (GDM2 + GD2) × n 375 × (Tb ± T)

t a: Braking delay time s
Time from when the brakes are activated until they start working (Brake characteristics table)

4. Braking distance

S = ta + 1 2 tb × V

  • S: braking distance mm
  • V: Speed of linearly moving object mm/s
