3. Lubrication
Introduction
At the time of shipment, ED2 and 4 are filled with Nihon Grease's Nigutite LMS No. 000, ED6 to 25 are filled with Shell Lubricants Japan's Shell Omala S2G150, and ARA Gear Box is filled with grease (EMG Lubricants Mobilux EP0), so please use them as is.
However, for ED6 and above, be sure to check the oil level with the oil gauge after installation is complete. If the oil level cannot be confirmed with the oil gauge, add the same brand of lubricant until it can be confirmed.
*If the lateral shaft rotation speed is less than 200 r/min or if the ambient temperature is between 35°C and 50°C, the lubricant supplied cannot be used. A different lubricant will be required. Refer to the recommended lubricant table (Table 1 below) and change to an appropriate lubricant. (ED2, 4, and ARA can be used as is.)
3-2. Changing the lubricating oil
- ED2 and ED4 are grease lubricated and do not generally require replacement of the lubricant. However, replacing them every 20,000 hours will help extend their life. When replacing, use approximately 150g of the grease described in 3-1 above for ED2 and approximately 350g for ED4.
- ・For ED6 to 25, change the oil with new oil for the first time and after 500 hours of use. This is to wash away initial Wear debris caused by the break-in of each part, and will have a positive effect on future performance and lifespan.
After the second time, change the oil every 2500 hours or every six months, whichever comes first, depending on the operating conditions. (However, if the motor is operated for long periods at high temperatures, or in a high-temperature atmosphere, or in an environment with humidity or corrosive gases, the oil should be changed more quickly.) - ・Select the recommended lubricant from Table 1 below, taking into consideration the rotation speed and ambient temperature.
- -ARA Gear Box are lubricated with grease, so lubricating oil changes are generally not required.
- ・For forced oil supply specifications, please refer to the dedicated Instruction Manuals.

3-3. Grease supply (for ED6 and above shafts with a vertically upward shaft arrangement)
- ・If the bearing is located above the oil level, oil droplets alone will not provide sufficient lubrication, so the following grease is sealed into this bearing at the time of shipment.
EMG Lubricants Mobilux EP2 - -This bearing needs to be greased periodically (approximately every 1000 hours), so please replace the stopper in the position specified in the installation format with the included grease nipple to replenish the grease.
Note) Grease nipples are included with all shaft arrangements when shipped.

3-4. Inspection and replacement of oil seals
- - Oil seals also have a wear and lifespan, which can cause oil leaks. If used under particularly severe conditions (high temperatures, high rotation speeds, outdoors, etc.), their lifespan may be shortened. Inspect them regularly, and if there is an oil leak, replace the oil seal immediately. When replacing the oil seal, be sure to use an oil seal of the same model number and material. (Using an oil seal made of a different material may cause oil leaks.) Also, when replacing the oil seal, refer to the oil seal manufacturer's catalog.
- - In the early stages of operation, excess grease that was filled in during assembly may occasionally leak out from the lip of the oil seal, but this will not affect the functionality of the reducer.
