Application Examples Cam Clutch - 2. Detachable Ski Lift

application

Overrunning

When outer race of the Cam Clutch are engaged and torque is transmitted, the difference in rotation speed and direction of outer race causes
This is a method of use in which the wheel spins freely and repeatedly, similar to the freewheeling motion of a car.

Purpose of use and operation explanation

This is an example of a multi-ride ski lift being used to adjust the speed difference between high and low speeds at the boarding and disembarking points.

  1. Ski lifts operate at a slow speed when boarding and disembarking, and at a high speed when ascending or descending.
  2. When the lift disconnects from the main cable just before the boarding and disembarking area, it is released through a plate-like part at the top of the lift.
The tire has a built-in cam clutch that moves from the high speed to the low speed rotation range.
  3. Normally, the tires rotate at a slow speed due to the engagement of the cam clutch, but when the lift approaches at high speed,
The outer race ring of the cam clutch rotates freely, allowing for smooth transition to low speeds.
  4. As the lift speed gradually slows down and falls below the rotational speed of the tires, the cam clutch engages.
The lift automatically operates at low speed.

Advantages of using a Cam Clutch

  • - Cam clutches automatically engage and idle just by changing the rotation speed.
  • - No control device is required to adjust the speed difference, allowing for smooth speed changes.
