Nylon chain coupling selection
1. Conditions of use required for selection
- (1) Daily operating hours
- (2) Load characteristics and type of prime mover
- (3) Transmitted power or torque and rotational speed
- (4) Outer diameter of connecting shaft
2. Selection method
- (1) Depending on the conditions of use, calculate Service factor from the Service factor table on the right.
- (2) Multiply the transmission power kW (or torque) by Service factor to obtain design kW (or corrected torque).
- (3) Select a coupling from kW ratings table that satisfies the corrected transmission power (or corrected torque) at the rotational speed to be used (see the table below).
- (4) If the required shaft diameter exceeds the maximum shaft diameter of the selected coupling, use a coupling one size larger.
- (5) When using a standard key at low speeds, the surface pressure may be excessive. Therefore, calculate the surface pressure of the key and consider whether a special key or spline is necessary.
- (6) When selecting a coupling for direct motor connection, refer to the table below.
Please refer to the selection table for direct motor connection.
| Load Nature | Type of engine | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| electric motor turbine |
steam engine gasoline engine (4 or more cylinders) |
diesel engine gas engine |
|||
| Small fluctuation, small shock, small starting torque, no reverse rotation | 1.0 | 1.5 | 2.0 | ||
| Moderate fluctuation, moderate shock, no reversal (Most common case) |
1.5 | 2.0 | 2.5 | ||
| Large fluctuations, large impacts, reverse rotation under load, starting under load | 2.0 | 2.5 | 3.0 | ||
- Note: The above Service factor table is a general guideline. Please determine the coefficient taking into consideration the usage conditions.
